Frequently Asked Questions
Find clear and helpful answers to the questions we get most often about van life and motorhome adventures.
What do I need before starting Van Life?
This is something we are still figuring out ourselves. We started with the basics: Insurance, breakdown cover, bedding, cooking bits, power cables, first aid supplies and a few comfort items. Our plan is to buy as we go, with the expensive purchase of the Motorhome we want to spread costs throughout the next few moths.

Month 3 – Final essentials and head on another trip
How do we find safe places to park overnight?
This was our first question when it came to planning a trip. We’ve been using an app which will tell you where there are approved campsites and camping locations across the world. We found the app through our dealership and this has been advised on a few forums that we found prior to getting our motorhome.
We will start to post any camping spot reviews on our blogs
How do you get power while traveling?
With Jake having family in the electrical contracting industry, we learnt about power very quickly and before picking our van we ensured Solar Panels came installed, this is something we would advise.
We also researched and found out that most if not all campsites have electrical hook-ups which will charge your leisure battery for while you are out on the road.
Is van life expensive?
As new “Van Lifers” we’re expecting the costs to vary depending on where we’re going. Fuel, Insurance, Campsites, Food, Maintenance and days out. Were planning on tracking each trip for not only ourselves but to share with you.
We will be summarising each trip with a blog, which will include the cost of the trip.
What gear do you take camping?
This will be updated on the 18th July once we depart for our trip.
What mistakes are we trying to avoid?
We know we’ll make a few, but we’re trying to avoid overpacking, forgetting basics, travelling too far too quickly, underestimating power or water usage and not planning waste stops. The plan is to start simple and learn as we go.
